About Pin

A pin occurs when a piece is attacked along a line by a bishop, rook, or queen, and moving it would expose a more valuable piece behind it. Absolute pins (against the king) prevent the pinned piece from moving at all, while relative pins involve pieces of lesser value. Learning to create, maintain, and exploit pins is essential for tactical success.

How to use these puzzles

Study the position carefully before moving any pieces. Try to find the best move on your own, then click on the piece you want to move and select the target square. Use the Hint button if you get stuck. After solving the puzzle, use the Next Puzzlebutton in the Current Turn card to practice another position from this theme.
