About En Passant
En passant is a special pawn capture that occurs when a pawn moves two squares from its starting position, passing by an adjacent opposing pawn that could have captured it if it had moved only one square. The opposing pawn may then capture it as if it had moved only one square. This rare but important rule can create surprising tactical opportunities and must be considered in pawn structures.
