About Sacrifice
A sacrifice involves deliberately giving up material — a pawn, piece, or even the queen — to gain a tactical or strategic compensation. Sacrifices can expose the enemy king, activate pieces, gain tempo, or create long-term positional advantages. Recognizing when material can be sacrificed for greater benefit is one of the most beautiful and difficult skills in chess.
